25 Days of Christmas: Day Thirteen - Elf

I sincerely love Elf. It's a superbly silly film. There is something surprisingly genuine about it, even Will Ferrell comes across as a sincerely joyful Elf. In fact I would even say he makes Elf. It's fun, silly and Zooey Deschanel is in it which always makes a film that bit better (just ask Yes Man). Maybe it's just because I am a sucker for any film that makes me feel all Christmassy. If you are like me and don't hold too much hate for Mr. Ferrell then chances are you will love (or already love) this modern Christmas classic.
ELF

The Christmas Story
When a 6ft 3in man is told by his Elf Father that he is actually adopted he decides to leave the North Pole and find his real Dad. However years of living under the impression that he is an Elf has left a lasting impression on Buddy, giving him a joyful disposition. What follows is Buddy trying to bring the joy of Christmas to everyone he meets, however, more often than not this gets him into a lot of trouble. Restraining orders, fist fights all manner of misfortune befalls Buddy. Eventually everyone comes round to his way of thinking and before long they are all singing Christmas songs in the middle of the street. There is plenty of paternal trauma and romantic tension throughout to dilute what is essentially a 97 minute onslaught of Christmas. In some ways this films seems like a Christmas film for people a bit older than the usual target audience. Sure, there are lots of jokes for kids and there isn't anything really inappropriate, the 'adult humor' is smarter than that. For each layer of silly fun there is a layer of subtle fun that is simply irresistible. 4.5/5

The Voice of Christmas
Buddy tries to put Christmas everywhere he can. Every room he moves through seems to gradually acquire more and more paper chains and snowflakes. He eats nothing but sugar and can whittle wood into a rocking horse within minutes. He is polite, consistently complementing everyone he meets. On top of all that he just love Christmas. In the end, Christmas is saved thanks to his actions and saving Christmas is the goal of every Voice of Christmas. 5/5

The Annoying Kid At Christmas
I gotta say, no one really annoys me in this film. James Caan is the scrooge of the film and he does some obnoxious things but nothing that screams annoying. 1/5

The Christmas Miracle
Christmas joy is a wonderful thing. It can light up any drab December. In the wold of Elf Christmas joy has a much more green effect. It is one of the most effect alternative reusable fuels in the world. If it can make sleighs fly I assume it could power a small district. In an environmentally conscious world it truly is a miracle. Shame it only really works one month in the year. 4/5

The Christmas Message
"The best way to spread Christmas Cheer
Is singing loud for all to hear" Wonderful. 5/5

Additional Points
-The Christmas Critters +2
-Kyle Gass of Tenacious D having a career outside of The D always makes me happy +0.5

Overall Festivity Score 22/25

Tomorrow White Christmas Cos Thankfully D.W.Griffith Didn't Get To That One
